A Seussical Birthday

As my sweet girl's birthday is fast approaching...and her next birthday party...I can't help but think about her 2nd birthday.  When I look at her pictures, I can't believe how much she's grown.  She's going to be 3 in a few short days and it makes me sad that she is growing so fast.

Please stay my little baby, I tell her.  In response, she tells me that she's not a little baby...she's Isabel.  I love her.

I was introduced to Pinterest last year.  I referenced Pinterest when I was putting together her party.  If I had better time management skills, I would have done more.  I really get into the birthday spirit.

I also got my Viking Topaz 20 last year.  I used the embroidery arm for the first time embroidering the shirts for this party.  I also made the tutus. I got the blue and white polka dotted fabric from IKEA and the red and blue lanterns from the dollar bin at Target.

"One Who Sleeps Beneath a Quilt is Comforted By Love"

This lady, ME!, has been super busy quilting.  These are all basically the same design but with different fabrics.  Each quilt is comprised of twelve 10 inch blocks.  In each block is one picture.  Two of the quilts are made with squares from one sweater.  These are actually quilts #3 and #4, same customer, using the same sweater.  The other quilt made with all fabrics is made from 27 shirts.

Here are some samples of the quilts I've done in the last 4 weeks.

Cookie Is A Sometime Food

My girls don't watch Sesame any more but i still quote Cookie Monster when they want sweets - "Cookies are a sometime food".  Back in the day when everything was about Sesame Street, we had a First Birthday party for Isabel and it was all about Cookie Monster.  We kept it simple but it was nonetheless fun.

I used the frosting tip to make Cookie's blue fur messy, Wilton Candy Melts for his eyes and just added a dot of black frosting for his wacky eyes.  To finish it off, I shoved a cookie in his mouth!  Too easy.   Here are some pics:

A Very Brave Birthday

In a few days, my 2 year old, sweet girl, will be turning 3.  She  has been obsessing about her birthday for months and I am so excited for her big day to arrive.  Which got me to thinking...I haven't updated this blog with the other parties I've done for the girls.

Addison's 4th birthday.  We hadn't even seen the movie Brave, but Addison was all about Princess Merida.  I scoured the internet for kilt tutorials.  Surprisingly, the internet is not flooded with kilt tutorials but I did find a GREAT tutorial at Bethany Sew-and-Sew.  I embroidered the shirts with Princess Merida and made them flower hair clips.  I had such grande plans for this party but alas, time was my enemy.

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse 3rd Birthday Party

There was a time when Addison only had eyes for Sesame Street.  We took her to Sesame Place multiple times and each time was like the first time for her.  She couldn't get enough of it.  She squealed  with delight at each character greet and cried crocodile tears when she left.  But somewhere around the end of her 2nd year, she started liking Mickey Mouse.  With the same dedicated she once had to Sesame Street, she now had for Mickey Mouse and Friends.

So it's no surprise that for her 3rd birthday party we had a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse themed birthday party.  This year, I made shirts for all the kids using my Silhouette Cameo. Can we say, love the machine?! Mickey Mouse shirts for the boys and Minnie Mouse shirts for the girls with tutus. This time, her daddy was home. :)

Tutus and shirts for all the girls.  Tutus are seriously so easy to make.  If you've never made one and want to, there are way too many tutorials to list.  Just Google "Tutu tutorial".

I got a little carried away.  I made names for all the kids.  Probably wouldn't do this again. Very time consuming AND I used wood that was too thick.

Used the Silhouette Cameo to cut the cupcake holders. Super easy and super fast.  Loved it!

Abby Cadabby & Super Grover

I love birthday parties.  My girls are 2 and 4, so I've had the opportunity to plan a few. The next birthday in our house isn't until June but that hasn't stopped my 2 year old from asking me daily if today is her birthday.

She is also obsessed with Peter Pan.  I totally scored at Target when they had a plethora of Peter Pan items in the their dollar bins.  Yes!  Well, she saw what i purchased and is ready for her birthday, now!

This got me reminiscing about the other parties I've had for my girls.  On that note, I decided to share some of the parties here over the next few days.

Here's the Abby Cadabby and Super Grover Party, Birthday 2 for Addison.  My husband missed the party because he was in Afghanistan, so I tried to compensate by making it as awesome as I could.  I made all the girls Abby Cadabby outfits (I hand cut the felt for the Abby shirts - crazy and time consuming!) and made a Super Grover outfit for our lone boy.  I was feeling very crafty so I even made the gift bags.

Bed Decor

We bought our 4 year old a big bed for Christmas and it is way big! She has to use a stool to get up and down.  Our 2 year old never wanted to sleep in her bed but we've got her sleeping half the time with her sister...and the other half with us.  She's a cuddler.  She reaches out in her sleep.  Anyway, since the girls will be sharing a room when we PCS, I've been thinking about the bed.

There's a purple bed cover and purple pillow covers. Purple.

Time to add pop! I'm still working on the pop!  I bought fabric but I am thinking that pop! with the pillows is the way to go.

I made a pillow for my girlfriend's daughter.  She just turned 4.  I am playing around with style and color.  Not sure the color is right for the bed but I'll keep playing.

My 4 year old has grande plans for the pillows she wants me to make.  Think princess and fairies and you'll be thinking along the same lines as her.

Since the girls will be sharing a bed, they each need their own pillows for sure!  What one has, so the other wants as well.

So pillows are on my agenda for the weekend.  I may even post it as a tutorial.  My first one. :)

Have a good evening.  Time to head back to the sewing room.
